Ecoware Statement - Wellington City Council and PLA

Recently, Wellington City Council decided to stop accepting polylactide packaging (PLA) as input at their composting facility. Although this is not ideal, we are not deterred, and see this as only a temporary problem in Wellington City. Their decision only affects PLA products like coffee cups and EcoDeli bowls. All other compostable packaging, like Ecoware kraft tableware, bamboo tableware, wooden cutlery etc, is still accepted for composting. Ultimately, the issue is an economic one, not a compostability one.

Please remember: your certified compostable packaging is still a more sustainable option than traditional plastic packaging.
